sweater weather!

With snow falling today just an hour away from our home, it seems as though we skipped right from Summer to Winter. Even so, it is October and that means, falling leaves, changing colors, Halloween, and an abundance of hot chocolate being served in our house (we have been quite into the spicy hot chocolate and I found one to make!).

Last month our friends Brian & Natalie tied the knot. They had perfect weather for an outdoor ceremony at Bella Vista Golf Club in Limerick, Pa. Luckily it wasn’t quite sweater weather yet, a few drizzles early in the day, but they ended up with a beautiful sunset ceremony. It couldn’t have gone better with their orange and brown fall theme. I had to take advantage of my early arrival and take a few detail shots.

And why mention hot chocolate? Well – the color of the groomsmen’s vest was hot cocoa of course :)

Congratulations Brian & Natalie! Your two make a beautiful couple! Take Care ;)

congratulations dr. pete

Today was a great day in our home! For the past 5 years, my incredible husband was working towards his PhD in Pharmacology. Today he defended his thesis and successfully graduated! While he did all the studying, it was a very special day for both of us. To celebrate, once his thesis was handed in a few weeks ago, we went out with the incredible Kamila Harris and took a trip to Citizens Bank Park, home of the current World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Pete was born and raised as a Phillies fan, so the idea of being on the field and in the dugout was exciting….to top it all off, after a few minutes in the park, he realized that every screen read PTB, PhD. I believe the statement was “That’s ME!”

I wanted to share a few of the sneak peaks we got to commemorate the day for us. The rest look great and I am definitely looking forward to posting some more once we have them. If you haven’t had a shoot done recently, and you have no reason to do an engagement shoot, do a shoot just because. It is so much fun and I think it is safe to say, we are addicted.

Thank you again, Kamila, you really helped make today super special!!! And congratulations Pete! I love you and am so proud of everything you have accomplished!!!!

ps….I totally wanted to name this post “we’re so cute!”

making the wedding yours

This doesn’t have anything to do with photography. But no one ever said that was the only thing this blog was about. Things have been very hectic since we are getting ready for two weddings in the upcoming months of friends and family. I was looking for something a bit more fun to post this week (I have a few things I am really excited about posting next week!). I know everyone loves the album layouts ;) And each of my posts usually end up crediting an artist in some way, so I decided to brag about another artist that helped my special day.

We didn’t technically have a theme for our wedding day except to have fun. My husband loves comic books, and I won’t deny that any kiddie version of a super hero is cute. We wanted to give everyone who had done something for us an “event staff” t-shirt. Yes – we are HUGE nerds. It couldn’t be just any t-shirt. We had to make it ours. We wanted a picture of us. But we definitely did not want a photo of us on a shirt. Come on – who is going to wear that?

This is where the love of comics comes in. Pete (my husband) commissioned comic artist Chris Giarrusso to do a wedding “portrait” of the two of us. Armed with just pictures we had posted on a homepage, he came up with two different sketches. We quickly eliminated a more posed, under some flowers “portrait”, and he finalized our masterpiece below.

The moral of the story is…brides, grooms, whoever is reading this….your wedding day is about the two of you. Make sure everyone knows it :) And have a great time. And there is nothing to stress about! And make sure you check out Chris’s work, because not only is it awesomely cute, it is really funny :) And for anyone wondering why this is in the inspiration category….because it makes me happy.

have you seen Kamila’s new site?

She might possibly be my favorite photographer to work with. But who doesn’t love working with people that are awesome? I had to wait to post this because she was getting so many hits to her new site it was shutting down! She is a popular girl….what can I say?

I was so excited when Kamila asked for my help with her new website design. I am definitely not a web designer…flash, java, all that fancy stuff….woooooo. My brain doesn’t work that way. But a splash screen to tell her clients immediately that she is great, and what kind of awesome she is….that I can do :)

Splash screen design for Kamila Harris Photography

Kamila LOVES older cameras and experimenting with film. I wanted to portray what makes her different immediately, but also show the beautiful style she brings out in each image she takes.

She is doing some great stuff and getting ready to move into a new studio. So check out her blog to keep up on all the crazy happenings!
